What is Pilates?

Pilates (originally Contrology) is a method of exercise designed to build strength, mobility and body awareness through controlled, low-impact movement. Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, it focuses on improving core stability, posture and balanced muscle development.

It is suitable for a wide range of people — from complete beginners looking to move better, to professional or amateur athletes - Pilates is helpful for anyone looking to improve posture and flexibility while building strength and essential muscle, ease pain, feel and look more confident.

Reformer and Tower Pilates

Two of the most well-known Pilates apparatus are the Reformer and the Tower. The Reformer uses a moving carriage, springs and straps to create resistance and support, allowing exercises that challenge strength, coordination and control while remaining gentle on the joints. The Tower offers a slightly different experience, using spring-based resistance from a vertical frame to guide and assist movement, helping develop alignment, stability and flexibility. Together, these apparatus expand the possibilities of Pilates practice, providing a dynamic yet supportive environment.

Don't let apparatus intimidate you - it is there to offer support and ease movement and mind-body connection!
